Most virtual scenarios use selected responses i.e. the user chooses from a set of options eg the buttons or links, or choices in a question. This works fine most of the time but tends to cue the learner, which is sometimes a problem.
Being able to process constructed responses or free-text entries is very useful. But it is not always straightforwards. Here are some of the methods we have implemented in OLab over the years. Spoiler alert! – we now have some much more sophisticated ways of doing this.
We are presenting this at the AMEE Conference in Lyon.
